Knit, Knit, Purl, Purl,

I almost learned how to knit in high school. We had a creativity day thing where we got to explore different ways of expressing ourselves, I think? I ended up signing up for the not so popular Learn to Knit class as one of my sessions that day and learned the basic stich enough to take home a few rows and a small ball of yarn attached to it to try to knit on a pair of needles my mom happened to have. The result was a bit of frustration at dropped stiches and not having learned to cast off. Today however I think I have learned enough that I will retain this information for longer than a week!

Through church my mom is part of a women's ministry movement to provide fellowship through crafts, specifically quilting. But today they joined forces with a few knitters to invite anyone that wanted to learn how to knit. I went partially to make sure that someone showed up but also b/c I have not given up on yarn craft. Thus I have spent most of my day knitting and purlling!

I brought home two balls of yarn to work with, one is a slightly boring varagated to help see my stiches clearly and I'm using that to simply practice, and the other is a blue chenille which I'm hoping to make into a skinny scarf! It's not very big though, so I'm not really sure how long it'll get but it is worth a shot. I also have a set of directions so I can review how to cast on, knit, purl, increase and decrease the width as well as cast off, it's very exciting.

In talking to the couple women that were teaching/helping I think my first "real" project will be making a felted bag. That really only consists of making two big rectangles which should work out just fine. I might even do stripes! The felting comes in by then washing the wool pannels so that they shrink and form a sturdier piece. I'm just not sure what I'll use for handles though. Assuming I get that done, I'll decide if I want to progress onto hats and mittens and the like.

Shoe Rack!

Avila's Shoe Rack

Firstly all my boots, but one pair is in NY, another is on its last legs and may be thrown out tomorrow, and finally my raint boots which just don't fit. Then there are my slippers, one pair of which might also be tossed out as well as my new ones that I got this Christmas. But I might keep those elsewhere anyway as well as my jazz shoes (also not pictured.) The more normal shoes that really could go on there are a pair of brown casual shoes and a pair of black sandals. These though have been in the hall closet for close to a year and I'm tempted to just let them stay in there.

I tried to organize them somewhat, with the top row my black to white dress shoes, then the second has the brown ones plus my colored flats. then some older shoes that I don't wear that often, the next one has the shoes that I wear the most day to day, and finally my big shoes that are all kinda dirty.

It's all very exciting and I'm glad to have things a little more organized!

Paint!

A lot of stuff has happened lately, but right now I'm more interested in telling about my paiting project! My father made me a shoe rack after I asked very nicely, and am currently in the middle of painting it ^_^

I have finished priming it, and am waiting for it to completly dry until I go over it with color. I'm just using the leftover paint from when I re-did my dresser and desk in a slightly green light teal.

Once that's done I'm going to clear out the space where my shoes were and go through more of the random stuff in my room and hopefully throw out alot of it! Not being in my room for several months has given me a bit more perspective on a lot of the misc. stuff that I've been holding onto. Most of it I really don't need anymore so by next week my room should be much much cleaner. And more teal.
